Research Quality Framework National Stakeholder Forum

The Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee looks forward to the National Stakeholder Forum on Thursday 2 June, 2005 following the release of the Government’s Advanced Approaches Paper Research Quality Framework: Assessing the quality and impact of research in Australia.

AVCC Chief Executive Office Mr John Mullarvey said that the AVCC understood why, but was concerned that the paper has not included various models of how the Research Quality Framework (RQF) could operate.

“It would have been useful for attendees to have proposed model(s) before attending the Forum,” Mr Mullarvey said.

“This would have allowed for a firmer base to discuss the major outstanding issues, that of the capacity to assess the strategic development of universities’ research and, how best to include the assessment of research training in the RQF

“However, it is understandable that because of these two major unresolved issues the tabling of various model(s) for discussion would have been counter productive.

“It is hoped that the Expert Advisory Group when it meets on Friday 3 June will be in the position to decide the model(s) to be trialled. “It is imperative that the AVCC, universities and other stakeholders have the opportunity to comment on the model before they are committed to and trialled within the sector,” Mr Mullarvey said.
