Funding for research infrastructure welcomed by the AVCC
The Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee (AVCC) welcomes the funding announced today under the
National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).
“Research is a major economic driver, but to be internationally competitive very large investments are needed
to support modern research,” AVCC President Professor Gerard Sutton said.
“This country has to be prepared to invest in research infrastructure at an adequate level if it wishes to be a
leader in both research and economic performance.
“NCRIS is pioneering a new approach to investment in research infrastructure, one which recognises that as a
small country in a changing world, facing multi-disciplinary challenges and opportunities, we simply have to
work together.
“The Federal Government and the NCRIS Committee deserve our congratulations,” Professor Sutton said.
