Universities Australia established
The Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee (AVCC) has today become Universities Australia with the
adoption of a new constitution and a new focus.
"This landmark change signals a re-focussing of our collective efforts on advocacy for higher education
in the public interest, both nationally and internationally," former AVCC President and incoming Chair of
Universities Australia Professor Gerard Sutton said.
"We are delighted this change to Universities Australia and change in direction has been so strongly
endorsed by the university sector.
"All existing members of the AVCC are inaugural members of Universities Australia.
Universities Australia's members are the universities themselves. Vice-Chancellors as university CEOs
will represent their universities at Universities Australia meetings and on the Universities Australia Board," Professor
Sutton said.
