Swinburne University of Technology provides quality career-oriented education. Our strong technological base and links with industry are complemented by innovative research centres and strong international partnerships.

Swinburne has more than 32,000 full-time equivalent students studying across five campuses, and around 2,700 staff. There is also a campus in Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia which has around 2,600 students.

The university offers programs from apprenticeships through to PhDs. It is a unique learning environment that places a strong emphasis on building career-ready graduates, and with more than 15,000 students actually studying in the workplace.

Our higher education programs benefit from our Professional Learning Model. The model enhances Swinburne's traditional focus on real-world learning and industry-linked teaching. It aims to provide undergraduates with flexibility and opportunity, through career assistance, elective units to diversify career profile, work-integrated learning opportunities, options to pace (accelerate or spread) study, industry-oriented projects and cross-discipline study options.

Vocational education and training at Swinburne is distinguished by our Vocational Learning Model, which combines program design, individual support and a full range of services for students. The aim is to provide the type of assistance that helps students achieve their education goals. Swinburne is also the first university in Australia to offer a guaranteed institution-wide articulation program. The Guaranteed Entry Scheme gives students guaranteed entry into an undergraduate degree program when they enrol in a Swinburne diploma or advanced diploma.

Swinburne is ranked among the top universities in the world by all three major international rankings, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Top 500), the Times Higher Education University World Rankings (Top 400) and the QS World University Rankings (Top 3 per cent). The university is also ranked in the top 100 universities in the world in the field of Physics research by the ARWU.

Over the past few years Swinburne has consistently achieved more five star ratings than any other university in Melbourne in the Good Universities Guide, including for teaching quality, graduate satisfaction and generic (employability) skills.

Our researchers have also earned a reputation for high-impact research with strengths in advanced manufacturing technologies, astrophysics, biotechnology, cognitive sciences, computing, design, micro and nano-engineering, optics and applied laser technology, and social sustainability and wellbeing. The university has invested more than $250 million in infrastructure and research to strengthen our reputation for research and teaching excellence.

Internationally we have formed important partnerships in China, India and Vietnam. Swinburne also has formal exchange arrangements with institutions in over 80 countries around the world and our student mobility rate is higher than the national average. Swinburne is also a member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities and the Community Colleges for International Development.
