Higher Ed Services (HES) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Universities Australia, and was established on a not-for profit basis to provide professional services and advice to Australian universities.

HES now has a growing number of clients from across Australia and New Zealand - including universities, the Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, CSIRO, ANSTO and the Cancer Institute of NSW.

One of its goals is to assist universities to achieve cost savings in their corporate applications and goods and services acquisitions through knowledge sharing, collaboration and achieving economies of scale. The company aligns its core business directly with the core business requirements of its clients and seeks to identify collaborative management opportunities that are able to realise cost effective outcomes and leverage economies of scale.

The HES Board (appointed by Universities Australia) is responsible for the appointment of the CEO, and the probity and governance of company activities. It also approves any new initiatives and associations and contracts and it receives reports from the CEO on company operations. The Board meets six times a year. The Board has all the normal reporting responsibilities to ASIC each year and the company is externally audited on an annual basis.
