Universities Australia has today welcomed the appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Research Council (ARC), Professor Margaret Sheil.
Universities Australia Chair Professor Gerard Sutton said that the sector is pleased the appointment has been filled by someone with a depth of knowledge and experience in research and research management.
"Professor Sheil has previously held the role of Chair of the universities Deputy Vice-Chancellors' Research Committee, providing her with extensive experience in liaising with Australia's research sector.
"This knowledge of the sector, along with her existing dealings with universities and allied commercial research entities, will be of benefit to the ARC in this role," Professor Sutton said.
Universities Australia looks forward to working with Professor Margaret Sheil in her new position.
