Universities Australia today announced a three-year extension to the national site licence agreement with Thomson Reuters covering the Web of Knowledge. Web of Knowledge is an internet based product that provides researchers with access to an extensive range of journals, books, proceeding and patents.

"Universities Australia and its predecessor body, the Australian Vice-Chancellors Committee, has held a site licence for eight years, with 37 of our 39 members choosing to join the current agreement," said Chief Executive of Universities Australia, Dr Glenn Withers.

"Our close partnership with Universities Australia and its members is of utmost importance to us and we are delighted to extend the Web of Science subscription for the ninth consecutive year. We are honoured that our high quality and trusted content will continue to contribute towards Australia's success in higher education, research and innovation," said Mr Mark Garlinghouse, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, Healthcare & Science business of Thomson Reuters

"Web of Science is an indispensable, multi-disciplinary database underpinning research and research performance analysis in Australian universities. CAUL welcomes their wide availability arising from these negotiations," said Ms Cathrine Harboe-Ree, President of the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) and University Librarian of Monash University.

As part of the licence Universities Australia's members will also enjoy access to a range of other Thomson Reuters products including Journal Citation Reports

This allows Australia to continue to position itself to contribute an increasing proportion of leading research and innovation in a global market," Dr Withers said.
