Universities Australia wrote to the-then Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Julia Gillard MP in her capacity as Chair of the Human Capital Group within the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) seeking assistance with including several items on COAG's Human Capital Agenda, including:

  • differences between jurisdictions in charges for educating the children of student visa holders;
  • the interface between regional migration objectives and federal visa administration;
  • the absence of student transport concessions for international students in some jurisdictions; and
  • the lack of ease of VET-to-university pathways for international students.
