Universities Australia welcomes the opportunity to repsond to the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education's (DIISRTE) review of venture capital and entrepreneurialism in Australia. Providing key stakeholders with a forum to contribute to this review demonstrates the Government's commitment to creating a policy environment that assures the future of venture capital, and the continued development of entrepreneurial skills in Australia.
Universities play an extremely important role within the innovation system, as highlighted by the strong support given to universities in the Review of the National Innovation System commissioned in 2008. In addition to teaching and research, universities undertake a range of important roles relevant to the innovation agenda including research training, cross-sectoral collaboration and commercialisation.
