Graduate Careers Council of Australia Course Experience Questionnaire Data 2002
General Notes
-
The following files were generated from
the 2002 GCCA CEQ survey.
-
The data is provided in comma delimited
format (CSV files), most recent spreadsheet programs will read
these.
-
Figures are provisional, pending
confirmation.
-
The files are nested by institution (DEST
institution code), level of award and field of study. ASCED field
of education codes have been recoded to the old field of study
codes in order to maintain the time series.
-
Figures are presented across the columns
for the CEQ scales used by each institution.
The abbreviations for the scales are as
follows:
GTS
= Good Teaching Scale [CORE]
CGS = Clear Goals and Standards Scale
AWS = Appropriate Workload Scale
AAS = Appropriate Assessment Scale
GSS = Generic Skills Scale [CORE]
OSI = Overall Satisfaction Item [CORE]
IMS = Intellectual Motivation Scale
SSS = Student Support Scale
GQS = Graduate Qualities Scale
LRS = Learning Resources Scale
LCS = Learning Community Scale
SD = Strongly disagree (response 1, after
reverse scored items are aligned)
D = Disagree (response 2)
U = Undecided (response 3)
A = Agree (response 4)
SA = Strongly agree (response 5)
‘SD’ might also mean ‘standard
deviation’, depending on the context. Means and standard deviations
are calculated to one decimal place. The data in these files include
figures from both major fields of study.
For further details and explanations of these
data, the reader is directed to the various Course Experience
Questionnaire reports published by the GCCA.
The AV-CC/GCCA Code of Practice concerning the
use of CEQ figures is also available for download here.

Description of files available on this site:
1. ceq02.csv shows CEQ figures by institution,
level of qualification and field of study. The mean and standard
deviation are shown for each scale, and the national scale mean and N
size is also shown.
2. option02.csv
shows CEQ figures by institution, level of qualification and
institution-generated faculty/degree/course code variable (where an
institution included it). The mean and standard deviation are shown
for each scale, and the N size is also shown. There are no national
figures as the option codes are unique to each institution.
3. area02.csv
shows CEQ figures by institution, level of qualification and 40
aggregated fields of study. Institutional and national means, standard
deviations and response numbers are shown for each scale.
4. pcmaj02<scale>.csv:
There are 11 files showing the percentage disagree-agree on the 5
point Likert scale by field of study for each scale and the overall
satisfaction item. Column headings used are SD% (% strongly disagree),
D% (% disagree), U% (% undecided), A% (% agree), and SA% (% strongly
agree).

7. CEQapp02.csv
shows CEQ figures for pass and honours degree graduates by institution
and DETYA field of study. The institutional and national means are
shown for each scale, and the N size is also shown. These are the
figures which used to appear in the institutional appendices of the
annual CEQ report.
Additional files with previous years CEQ data
are also available on this site. They are in slightly different format
(in terms of layout of data and variables) and users should consult
the relevant information files for those years.
For further details and explanations of these
data, the reader is directed to the various Course Experience
Questionnaire reports published by the GCCA.
