Universities welcome ministerial appointments

Australia’s universities congratulate Senator Arthur Sinodinos on his new role as Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science and thank Minister Greg Hunt as he moves to the health portfolio.

Universities Australia’s Deputy Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said the sector looked forward to working with Senator Sinodinos on initiatives to grow the innovation and science economy.

“Senator Sinodinos brings considerable experience to a portfolio in which universities play a fundamental role,” Ms Jackson said.

“We look forward to working with the new Minister to foster higher levels of industry-university collaboration and to maximise opportunities for Australia,” she said.

“We thank Minister Hunt for his work in bringing to life the Government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda, and his deep interest in university precincts to enhance the links between industry and researchers.”

“Minister Hunt has also worked thoughtfully on the Research and Development tax incentive review, which is slated for the next phase of consultation this year.”

Universities Australia also congratulated Senator Scott Ryan on his appointment as Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Cabinet, Ken Wyatt on becoming Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous Health and Michael Sukkar on his appointment as Assistant Minister to the Treasurer.
