The Director, Strategic Communications is responsible for the development, implementation and management of internal and external communications strategies to strengthen Universities Australia’s position as an effective national peak body.
This position leads the Strategic Communications team (comprising four staff) and working with the UA policy team to communicate Universities Australia’s policy positions and promote the Australian university sector.
This is a key executive role providing high level strategic advice and is one of two senior executive positions reporting to the Chief Executive.
The communications team, led by the Director, Strategic Communications, works closely with the UA policy team on policy development and advice and devises UA’s media advocacy and campaigns. The team maintains close working relationships with Members of Parliament, Ministerial and Shadow Ministerial offices as well as Government departments including on formal lobbying efforts.
The team writes and issues media releases, speeches and opinion pieces, produces publications including Member Update and HIGHER ED.ITION, crafts communication plans, and undertakes media liaison, background briefings, and manages UA’s branding, quality assurance and consistency of documentation. It produces printed materials, manages social media and oversees website content.
