Policy team vacancies

Universities Australia is the voice of Australia’s universities. We work hard to ensure Australia is supported by strong research and excellent higher education.

We champion the role universities play in generating significant social, economic and cultural value for the nation and the rest of the world. We advocate for policy settings that are in the national interest.

The roles

Exciting opportunities are available for high-performing policy professionals to join our team and work on a range of policy and advocacy priorities. The positions include:

  • Policy Director
  • Senior Policy Analyst, and
  • Policy Analyst

If you are an experienced professional with knowledge of, or interest in, higher education in Australia, then working at UA could be your next move.

The successful candidates will undertake policy work and analysis to promote and strengthen Australia’s higher education system.

Key responsibilities include engaging with key stakeholders and representing UA with a range of university, government and
non-government groups.

A competitive salary will be offered to the successful candidates for these Canberra-based positions. Flexible work options will be considered.

Skills and experience

The policy professionals we are seeking will have the following skills and experience.

  • Preparation of policy advice in an applied public policy environment.
  • High-level communication, liaison and negotiation skills and the ability to work constructively with a range of people and organisations.
  • Highly-developed capacity to organise work to meet deadlines, to work under pressure and to carry out a range of tasks quickly and independently.
  • Energy, initiative and drive.
  • An understanding of the research and/or higher education sector in Australia is desirable.
