Universities Australia welcomed the decision by Government to accept
all the recommendations of the Review led by Michael Knight which
sensibly mirrored the views of the higher education sector as
articulated in the universities' submission to the Review.
The changes proposed to visa requirements for students enrolled at
Australian universities will help to maintain an internationally
competitive international education sector that confirms Australia as an
attractive higher education destination and enriches the culture and
lives of Australians and our international colleagues.
The streamlining of visa processing arrangements and the extension of
the post study work visas together realise the Government's intent to
put quality education at the forefront of the visa system and go a long
way towards addressing many of the issues that have produced a current
decline in international student enrolments.
More information about the Knight Review and the implementation of its recommendations can be found in Universities Australia's media release, or by contacting our secretariat.
