Universities Australia, the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) and ISANA are pleased to support the aims and work of Australia's peak representative organisation for international students, the Council of International Students Australia (CISA). The body held its Inaugural General Meeting (IGM) in Hobart on Wednesday the 7th of July 2010.
According to Dr Glenn Withers, former CEO of Universities Australia, "A constructive student voice is a great force for tertiary education working well. The establishment of CISA is a very positive development."
The IGM was the culmination of two years of discussion among representative bodies and international students. The 2010 Forum was hosted at the University of Tasmania and was attended by approximately 80 international student representatives from across Australia. These students also represented 52 distinct student organizations, and those organizations were listed as the 52 Founding Member Organizations of CISA. The students decided CISA should take a multi-sectoral approach to its representation by representing postgraduate, undergraduate, VET/TAFE, ELICOS and Foundation students.
