UA appoints Deputy Chairs, welcomes new Board director

The Universities Australia Board has appointed its Deputy Chairs for the next two years.

Charles Sturt University Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Vann will continue to serve in the role he has held since 2017 — and is joined by La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar.

Universities Australia Chair Professor Deborah Terry said she was delighted to have two deputies with great energy, integrity and collegiality.

“The ambitious work program of UA continues to grow each year, so it’s terrific to have two deputy chairs of such calibre,” she said.

The UA Board has also farewelled Professor Annabelle Duncan, who finishes up in her role as Vice-Chancellor of the University of New England next week.

Professor Duncan will be succeeded by Swinburne University of Technology Vice-Chancellor Professor Linda Kristjanson AO.

Professor Terry said the Board was sad to lose the thoughtful counsel of Professor Duncan as she moved on to new challenges.

“Annabelle is an excellent director whose long experience and regional insights have been invaluable,” she said.

Professor Terry said she was pleased to welcome Professor Kristjanson to the Board.

“Linda has a strong track record as an innovator and leader, and I know she will make a powerful contribution to the UA Board.”

UNSW Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Jacobs and QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Sheil were welcomed warmly to the UA Board last month.
