On behalf of its members, Universities Australia provides national representation and advice to the Australian Government on issues of national security concern. That work has recently included the development and implementation of the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions regimes, and Autonomous Sanctions Regulations 2011 and the development of the voluntary code of practice around the handling of chemicals of security concern.
